Every salsa dancer has heard the rumba break in a song and felt something change. This is the class where you find out what's actually happening — by playing it yourself.

Guaguancó is the rumba style that lives closest to the salsa music you already dance to, built from a stack of parts that lock together: the clave, the catá, the tres dos, the tumbador, and the quinto. On top of all of that, a singer is telling a story.

Over four Thursdays you'll begin your journey of learning the bases of each percussion part (except quinto) from the ground up. No experience needed — we start with clave and catá before anyone touches a drum, and everyone plays the entire time. Vincent brings the full ensemble required for the students to learn: no instrument ownership is necessary on your part.

Vincent teaches the guaguancó bases as they were given to him, and with the blessing of his Cuban teacher. Todo con mucho amor y respeto.
